WASHINGTON DC - Hard-line Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has tried and failed to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson in sudden action Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Greene's long-shot effort was swiftly and resoundingly rejected by Democrats and Republicans tired of the political chaos of the U.S. House of Representatives.

An overwhelming majority, 359-43, kept Speaker Johnson in office.

Greene's political move now poses its own political risks for Greene and some Republicans.
