UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS - "The wars in Iran and Ukraine are taking center stage Wednesday as the United Nations General Assembly enters its second day of speeches from world leaders.  

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian used his address to accuse the United States and Israel of attacking his country, a day after President Donald Trump said he could “annihilate” the Islamic Republic.  

“We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists,” Pezeshkian said. “Our innocent people have been the targets of cowardly attacks and aggressions imposed upon our country. And we defended ourselves with utmost strength. America and Israel attacked us.”  

Pezeshkian held up photographs of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and more than 150 schoolchildren killed in the early days of the war. He said Iran had been “victims of terrorism” by the United States, adding: “Yes they did hit us, but we did not bend the knee.”  

His wartime address followed an unscheduled round of indirect talks between U.S. and Iranian officials on the sidelines of the New York gathering — the first such contacts since a June ceasefire agreement unraveled."
